Match Report
Chestfield 3.5 V Princes 1.5
1st Match
Darren Crabb / Michael Hart
Darren and Mike battled hard and were 1up going down the last. Unfortunately both Darren and Mike missed the green with their approach shots which made it incredibly difficult for either to hole their long putts.
Match Halved.
2nd Match
Robin Orchison / Jake Bushell
Jakes first appearance for the team this year and hopefully not his last. The pitch shot into 17 from Robin was pure class, hit it to within inches of the pin for a gimme birdie!
I'll hand over to Jake for his version of events, written as a poem!!
Jake:
Today's match was the first this year for me.
Away at Chestfield, how bad could it be?
Pulled into the car park looking my best
A quick glance at the course, it's always a tough test
So breakfast was served and it was actually nice.
With that on to the tee, just don't hit a slice!
Fairway found and Robin under the trees,
Clouds rolling in and a stiffening breeze,
The golf was average to poor at best,
I did the first 4 holes and Robin the rest,
And all square with only 2 to go,
Step up Robin to put on a show,
From 40 yards he pitched up to an inch,
Followed by a 3 putt from Pete which made him wince,
1 up on 18 thinking 'just keep it in play,'
Followed by me hitting the best drive of the day,
Lucky for me robins second found the green
Because everyone knows I'm the worst pitcher they've seen,
Sure enough a big pull into the trap,
A duff chip by Pete and the game was a wrap,
A 2 up win and a shake of the hand,
Now off to shower to wash off all the sand.Well played both of you, to get a victory with the course as it was, the conditions as they were, you did fantastic!!! Well played. Great to have you back in the team Jake!
3rd Match
Simon Reed / Mark Bennett
Unfortunately another defeat here. Simon and Mark gave it their best but came up short.
4th Match
Matt Digby / Dave Brett
Unfortunately Dave and Matt found themselves 5 down through 8 with hope fading fast. Battle as they may, there was little they could do to stop the inevitable defeat.
5th Match
David James / Sam Smith
I have never played well around this golf course and after my first tee shot, i knew that today would be no different. After knobbling it off the 1st tee just past the ladies my nightmare began.
I managed to get onto the 1st in 3 and missed a 10 footer for par which in all honesty never looked like going in as it bobbled through the sand.
Second hole a nett birdie was enough to win the hole for Chestfield, 2 dn.
Sam made a bogey on the 3rd and par on the 4th to keep us 2dn and fighting for our lives in all honesty.
I then made par on the 5th which Gary (Chestfield) matched with a good up and down.
Gary then made another par to go 3 up.
Onto the 7th, me and Sam hit great shots, then I put a 7 iron onto the green as did Sam. Both Gary and Dex were short of the green but again Gary made a great 2 putt to halve the hole as me and Sam failed to convert the birdie chances.
We then halved the next par 3, then I missed a 4 foot putt for half on the 9th to leave us 4 down. From here myself and Sam were fighting a losing battle. The game finally closed out on the 13th hole.
Another loss, a quick run to the bar for a couple of Guinness!!!
Whilst it was a defeat, I would say that this course holds a massive home advantage for Chestfield as personally I find it very difficult.
If we had come away from there with a 3-2 defeat I would have been ecstatic! Instead we came away 3.5-1.5 which I can honestly say I am more than happy with! I honestly don't think Chestfield will lose many matches at home, they are a strong team and I believe they will be up there at the end of the season!!
Onto the Home match against Ashford on the 18th !!!!
